The Verdict

Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis
Hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE) is a disease of dogs characterized by sudden vomiting and bloody diarrhea. The symptoms are usually severe, and HGE can be fatal if not treated. HGE is most common in young adult dogs of any breed, but especially small dogs such as the Toy Poodle and Miniature Schnauzer.[1] It is not contagious.

So basically Scout had a massive anxiety attack (that's that best way I can think of to describe this) from being separated from Stuart and that led to HGE via not eating, stress and depression. Thank you dog.

Our first trip to the vet yesterday (that's right, FIRST) landed Scout with a shot and three meds to bring home for the vomiting and GI problems. Unfortunately as the day progressed, so did the vomiting and then she started vomiting blood. So back to the vet. This second trip granted Scout two more shots and two more meds to add to her arsenal. Needless-to-say, I was a frantic dog mommy.

This morning my first question to Stu was "did she throw up again?" To which he replied, "who?" Sometimes you have to paint a very specific picture before he really sees it. She did very well and was even able to keep some chicken down {side note-boiling chicken takes a ridiculously long time}.

And what have we learned? Scout is a daddy's girl. She doesn't know that she's a dog. When she's sick, she does it right.
